A NEGLECTED access road linking Medan Niaga Kepong to the Segambut KTM station in Kuala Lumpur should be upgraded to improve connectivity and stop it from becoming a dumping ground.
Community activist Yee Poh Ping said the stretch, located near Jalan Udang Harimau 1 in Segambut Bahagia, could be turned into a proper access road if the relevant agencies worked together.
Yee said he had submitted a letter to Kuala Lumpur City Hall’s (DBKL) Infrastructure Planning Department on the matter.
He said the road, located under the Duta-Ulu Klang Expressway (DUKE) and near the KTM railway line, required coordination between agencies before any long-term improvements could be carried out.
“The road is muddy, has potholes and water ponding in many places.
“There are also workshops, stores and recycling activities there.
“Rubbish is everywhere,” he told StarMetro after visiting the site.
Yee said part of the road remained in use, but poor maintenance had affected the surrounding area’s appearance and environment.
He said DBKL should take the lead in discussing the matter with the relevant parties, including the highway concessionaire and Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB).
“Residents here can benefit from having better road surface, traffic flow and a cleaner environment.”
He said upgrading the stretch would create an alternative route between Jalan Segambut and Kepong Baru, while improving access to Taman Cuepacs, Taman Megah Kepong and Taman Seri Segambut.
Yee said motorists travelling from Jalan Segambut could use the road to bypass several traffic lights.
“This can become a proper link road between the Segambut and Segambut Utara KTM stations, besides serving residents travelling between Jalan Segambut and Kepong.”
He said unused or neglected areas below highways should not be allowed to become dumping grounds.
Yee said he would follow up with DBKL on the matter.
