Five Sg Lui sites repaired after riverbanks collapse

Izham: Riverbanks collapsed due to unusually large water flow.

SEVEN riverbank collapse incidents were recorded along Sungai Lui in Hulu Langat between July and September this year, with five sites already repaired and two more scheduled to begin soon.

“The riverbanks collapsed due to unusually large water flow,” said Selangor infrastructure and agriculture committee chairman Datuk Izham Hashim.

“The five repairs were carried out up until October, at a combined cost of RM396,900.”

Works were carried out at Batu 24 in Kampung Paya Lebar, Batu 20 near Sungai Pagoh, Batu 22 and Batu 22½ at Sungai Lui and Batu 19¾ in Kampung Jawa.

“The two remaining, soon-to-be repaired sites are Batu 20 Rumah PKNS and Batu 20 Kampung Baru Sungai Lui.

“The projects are now at the bill of quantity preparation stage, the process just before tender is awarded,” said Izham, disclosing that repairs cost between RM47,600 and RM199,850 per site.

He said this in reply to Datuk Johan Abd Aziz (BN-Dusun Tua), who asked about riverbank rehabilitation works along Sungai Lui during the Selangor State Assembly sitting at Bangunan Dewan Negeri Selangor in Shah Alam yesterday.

Izham said Sungai Lui had also been identified as part of a long-term flood mitigation plan under Phase 2, Package 1 of Sungai Langat Flood Mitigation Plan (RTB).

When asked by Datuk Dr Ab Halim Tamuri (PN-Paya Jaras) for updates on Phase 2 of the Sungai Buloh RTB project, Izham said it was part of the Federal Government’s approved funding for flood mitigation in other districts, including Sungai Buloh.

“The Federal Government has approved RM44mil for preliminary works, but the full cost of Sungai Buloh RTB’s Phase 2 project is RM854.96mil and will take 24 months to complete, including detailed design, land acquisition, engineering and physical works.”

He said the federal allocation covered only the project’s initial scope, including engineering surveys, detailed land investigations and detailed design consultancy.

Izham said some parts of the engineering scope were still pending clearance from Energy Transition and Water Transformation Ministry.
