JOHOR is playing a significant role in strengthening the country’s food security.

State agriculture, agro-based industry and rural committee chairman Datuk Zahari Sarip (pic) said this was evident with Johor accounting for 17.3% of Malaysia’s agricultural gross domestic product (GDP), making it the largest contributor nationwide.

“Johor is the leader in the national agricultural sector, with the highest sales value reaching RM27.2bil.

“This performance is further strengthened by agricultural export values amounting to RM23.96bil for the 2023 to 2024 period,” he said in a social media post.

Zahari said Johor also led the agri-food sector through sales in the agro-based industry worth RM348mil, representing 29% of the national total.

The government is confident Johor will reach its target of becoming a developed state by 2030.
