Tribunal rejects RM10,000 claim, orders return of RM1,600 to wedding planner instead

JOHOR Consumer Claims Tribunal has rejected a claim from a food delivery rider for a refund of RM10,000 from his wedding planner.

The 23-year-old claimant from Johor Baru made the claim against the wedding planner from Desa Paya Mengkuang in Gelang Patah, Johor, citing that the services at his wedding were unsatisfactory.

The claimant sought the sum consisting of food for 100 guests (RM3,000), finger food (RM2,000), rental of chairs and tables (RM2,500), deposit for the wedding hall and zapin performance (RM1,400) as well as RM1,100 as compensation for post-event disruption.

Initially, both parties had agreed to settle the issue for RM5,000 where the respondent, FZ Creations Bridal proprietor Mohamad Faizal Zainuddin said he would refund the claimant in five instalments.

When met outside the tribunal, Mohamad Faizal said he refunded RM1,000 on three occasions this year – Jan 1, 3 and 31 – to the claimant.

However, the claimant was still unhappy and despite their understanding, he proceeded to file the case with the tribunal.

According to Mohamad Faizal, the claimant came to his office on March 3, last year and chose the RM27,150 wedding package for the ceremony on Dec 6, 2025.

The claimant then made 10 payments with the final one on Nov 13, 2025.

Mohamad Faizal said the claimant’s brother-in-law and brother had also used his services in 2023 and 2024, for their respective weddings, without any issue or complaint.

Tribunal president Hafez Zalkapli said the respondent already reimbursed RM1,400 for the wedding hall deposit and the zapin performance which did not take place on the claimant’s wedding day.

“The respondent paid RM3,000 and needed more time to settle the balance of RM2,000,” Hafez said in his judgement.

He rejected the claim and instead, ordered the claimant to return RM1,600 to Mohamad Faizal within two weeks.

Hafez rejected the claim as the claimant had failed to provide any supporting documents, photographs, video evidence or witnesses to justify his claim for RM10,000.

Those in need of assistance can call the tribunal at 07-227 1755/1766, or visit Level 17, Menara Ansar, Jalan Trus, Johor Baru. Operation hours are 8am to 5pm Mondays to Thursdays, and up 4pm on Fridays. Closed on public holidays.
