THREE venues in Shah Alam are undergoing upgrades in preparation for the 2026 Malaysia Games (Sukma) in Selangor.
According to Shah Alam mayor Datuk Mohd Fauzi Mohd Yatim, the three sites under Shah Alam City Council’s (MBSA) jurisdiction that will be upgraded for Sukma 2026 are volleyball facilities in Section 4 as well as Dewan Besar Tanjung and beach volleyball facilities in Section 19.
Upgrades, he said, included comfortable seating, LED boards, enhanced lighting and disabled-friendly amenities.
“If not completed this year, we will carry them forward to next year, with April being the latest date for completion,” he said during the launch of the Shah Alam National Integrity Dialogue (Diksa) at MBSA Convention Centre.
Mohd Fauzi said the dialogue was aimed at helping MBSA uphold a high level of integrity in the public eye.
“This begins in Shah Alam. We want to prevent integrity-related issues not just rhetorically, but by instilling values that encourage the rejection of corruption.
“This initiative is led by Shah Alam, and we hope it will be expanded to other local councils, as maintaining integrity among public servants is crucial.
“One of the measures to uphold integrity is rotating staff among departments,” the mayor added.
It was reported that 34 sports will be contested in Sukma 2026, scheduled from Aug 15 to 24 in Selangor.
A total of 53 venues across nine districts in Selangor, as well as the National Velodrome in Negri Sembilan, will serve as competition sites.
Para Sukma 2026 is scheduled for Sept 5 to 14, featuring 10 core sports to be announced at a later date. — By MEGAT SYAHAR
