Shah Alam folk oppose land conversion for private school use

OVER 90% of objections submitted on Shah Alam City Council’s (MBSA) Draft Local Plan 2035 (Amendment) centre on a proposed rezoning in Section 32.

Out of the 164 objections received, 155 are related to a plan to convert land designated for public institutional facility (school) into commercial use for a private school.

MBSA deputy secretary (development) Aniza Othman said total objections involved four areas, with other issues raised for U4 Shah Alam (2), Section 17 (2) and U15 (5).

The publicity and public participation programme for MBSA Draft Local Plan 2035 (Amendment) concluded on Jan 21.

A hearing was held behind closed doors on March 2, chaired by Selangor local government and tourism committee chairman Datuk Ng Suee Lim.

When contacted, MBSA Zone 14 councillor Yogeswari Samynathan said the proposal had yet to be finalised.

She said all objections received had been reviewed and the relevant parties had provided their explanations during the hearing.

“The city council will prepare a summary of the feedback and submit it to the state.”

Yogeswari acknowledged the residents’ concerns, particularly over transport costs, travel time and traffic congestion in Section 32 if the rezoning takes place.
