JOHOR is positioning itself as a destination for inspiration and learning, not only a tourist attraction, says Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi.
Onn Hafiz, who also holds the state tourism portfolio, said the state government wanted to redefine Johor’s appeal beyond conventional sightseeing.
“As we prepare for Visit Johor 2026, which coincides with Visit Malaysia 2026, we are determined to present Johor not only as a place to visit, but as a place to experience, learn and be inspired.
“We want to highlight everything that is great about Johor, such as our rich culture, diverse communities, pristine nature, culinary heritage and world-class attractions,” he said.
Onn Hafiz added that tourism was no longer just about leisure, but encompassed a wider and more diverse range of elements.
“Every visitor who comes here contributes not only to Johor’s tourism receipts but also to job creation, business opportunities and community empowerment.
“It is about economic linkages. From hotels to food operators to transport providers and artisans, it creates a multiplier effect that uplifts the livelihoods of our people,” he said in his speech at the launch of Legoland Malaysia Resort’s new Ferrari Build & Race attraction.
Onn Hafiz said Legoland’s new attraction, the first of its kind in Asia, was in line with Johor’s tourism goals.
“For the first time in Asia, Ferrari, a name that embodies speed, precision and excellence, has chosen Johor as the home for this collaboration with Legoland.
“Together, they bring to life an experience that combines innovation, engineering and imagination; values that perfectly mirror Johor’s own spirit.
“Just as Ferrari has redefined performance and Lego has inspired generations through creativity, Johor too continues to redefine what it means to be a state that is forward looking, dynamic and world-class.”
Legoland Malaysia Resort vice-president CS Lim said the Ferrari Build & Race attraction comprised five main zones.
“The highlight of the first zone is a life-sized Lego Ferrari F50 with over 421,000 Lego bricks and weighing 1,603kg.
“We also have a ‘build’ zone for guests to unleash their creativity, a ‘test’ zone to try out their creations and a ‘virtual race’ zone where they can see their builds come to life on a digital version of the legendary Pista di Fiorano circuit.
“For younger visitors, we have included large Duplo bricks to encourage imaginative play,” he said.
