Eight years ago, Kampung Chim Lee squatters in Kepong were asked to move out to make way for redevelopment.

At the time, many of them were relocated to PPR Intan Baiduri in Kepong, Kuala Lumpur, with the landowner stepping in to cover three years’ rent as part of a compassionate arrangement to ease the transition.

Now, nearly a decade later, the same landowner is reaching out again – this time with good news.

The company has announced the construction of new Rumah Wilayah Persekutuan (Rumah WIP) at Jalan Rimbunan Teratai 3, Kepong for former Kampung Chim Lee squatters.

Costing RM300,000, the homes come with a 10% discount for the original residents. (The eligibility applies to Malaysians only.)

However, not all of the former squatters can be found.

During the relocation process, several contact numbers and records were lost, making it difficult for the landowner to reach all those affected.

“We are looking for the contact details of missing families, and hope they contact us as soon as possible,” said Kepong community activist Yee Poh Ping.

They are now appealing for help to locate the missing families to enable all 50 eligible households to benefit from the new housing offer.

The developer also confirmed that if any of the senior citizens who lived in Kampung Chim Lee had passed away, their children were entitled to take up the offer on behalf of the old folks.

Additionally, for the shoplot owners and tenants around the area, the developer is providing compensation to ensure they are supported during the redevelopment process.

The developer hopes to reconnect with every family soon to ensure the legacy of the Kampung Chim Lee community lives on.

Former Kampung Chim Lee folk, relocated to PPR Intan Baiduri, can call the coordinator Thomas Tan at 017-377 7867 for details.
