GOMBAK: The Selangor Nutrition Programme (Nutrisel) will continue next year in view of the positive response it has received, says Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.
He said the allocation for next year is currently being discussed along with the state budget for next year.
"How the programme will be implemented next year depends on the feedback we receive from the schools involved to see if there are any areas for improvement and additional needs that should be addressed.
"We will also consider information such as the students' nutritional needs," he told a press conference at SMK Gombak Setia here on Wednesday (Sept 9) after distributing breakfast packs to students.
The Selangor government's free school breakfast initiative commenced on Aug 3 and will continue until October, with RM12,556,200 allocated.
Some 104,640 students from B40 families in 932 schools under the jurisdiction of the state Education Department and Selangor Islamic Religious Department will benefit from the programme.
At SMK Gombak Setia, 497 students are eligible for the programme, where free breakfast is distributed to them on Mondays and Thursdays.
Also present was SMK Gombak Setia principal Siti Selma Ibrahim, who hoped Nutrisel will continue.
"This is a good initiative that allows students to enjoy a nutritious breakfast so that they are energetic and can concentrate better in class," she said.
Also present were Selangor deputy secretary (development) Datuk Johary Anuar and Selayang Municipal Council president Shahman Jalaludin.
The state government also allocated RM30,000 to build a disabled-friendly toilet and upgrade the roofs at SK Gombak Setia.
It also allocated RM27,700 to upgrade the surau at the school.
The allocations are part of the RM30mil Selangor School Assistance Programme 2026 aimed at repairing and upgrading school infrastructure in the state.
