ABOUT 10,000 job opportunities will be created once the Ipoh Sentral project is completed.
Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad said job opportunities would be in various sectors including construction, logistics, services and trade.
“During the construction phase, which started earlier this year for a public park, between 8,000 and 9,000 job opportunities opened up,” he said during the Perak state assembly sitting at Bangunan Perak Darul Ridzuan in Ipoh yesterday.
Saarani said this in reply to M. Thulsi (PH-Buntong) who asked about the impact of Ipoh Sentral project on her constituency.
The project, launched in 2025 by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, is expected to be developed in the next two decades.
It will consist of two phases, including the public park and a mosque, over the next two years.
It will be followed by a mixed-use development comprising serviced apartments, office spaces, retail outlets and other community amenities.
Saarani said the people of Ipoh, especially in Buntong, would benefit from the long-term mega project, which would be developed in phases over the next few years.
“It will have positive impact on small-medium enterprises, transportation and also increase land value in the surrounding area,” he said.
To a supplementary question, Saarani said the land for the project belonged to Railway Asset Corporation (RAC) which has permitted its use for development.
