Spectators gathering at Dataran Merdeka in Kuala Lumpur to photograph dynamic illuminated displays projected across the facade of Bangunan Sultan Abdul Samad. The visual show was part of the Malaysia World Light Festival, held to mark the 2026 National Day celebrations.

ASIDE from the National Day celebration in Putrajaya, Malaysians elsewhere in the country celebrated the day with local festivities organised by their respective states and communities.

Many came dressed in red, blue, white and yellow, alongside themed outfits and traditional attire.

In Negri Sembilan, Persatuan Peminat Sejarah Pahlawan members brought history to life by donning military uniforms from different eras.

Held at Dataran Majlis Bandaraya Seremban, the display offered younger generations a glimpse into the nation’s military past.

About 200 residents of Kampung Wang Kelian in Perlis taking part in a 8km convoy while flying the Jalur Gemilang in conjunction with National Day celebrations.

National Day countdowns were also held around the country, featuring cultural performances, light shows and fireworks, followed by parades.

Others chose to express their patriotic spirit through art and creativity.

Artist Shasharizah Mohd Said, better known as Shasha M Said, paid tribute to the nation’s history by drawing portraits of national heroes.

Vintage bicycle owners join the National Day 2026 parade at Dataran Shahbandar in Kuala Terengganu. Around 10,000 visitors lined the streets from early morning to watch the National Day procession, which featured 3,500 participants.

Her works are among a diverse collection of artworks, including pieces by children and people with different abilities, showcased at the Merdeka Art Exhibition at The Shoppes, Four Seasons Place, Kuala Lumpur, until Sept 16.

Newborns sharing their birthday with the nation on Aug 31 were also celebrated, giving their families an extra-special reason to mark the occasion with pride and joy.
