RM12,500 fines by MBDK hit seven Klang eateries

SEVEN restaurants in Klang, Selangor, were issued a total of 20 compounds for various violations, including failure to do pest control and not installing grease traps.

Klang Royal City Council (MBDK) Corporate Communications Department director Norfiza Mahfiz said a total of RM12,500 in compounds were issued to the seven restaurants after a surprise inspection, following public complaints.

The operation involved eight personnel from the city council’s Health, Licensing and Enforcement Departments.

“Compounds issued ranged from RM250 to RM1,500 each.”

Norfiza said some of the restaurants were slapped with RM1,500 compound for failure to do pest control while RM1,000 in compounds were issued to those that failed to instal grease traps and for releasing effluents into the drains.

“Other restaurants were issued RM1,000 compounds for unlicensed signboards installed without council approval,” she said.

“MBDK also issued a RM1,000 compound each to two premises for violating MBDK’s Food Establishment Licensing Bylaw 2007, for operating without a valid business licence,” she added.

Norfiza said RM250 compounds were also issued to some of the seven eatery operators for hygiene issues and stacking furniture at five-foot-ways, causing obstruction.
