THOSE with disabilities in Muallim, Perak, have been urged to renew their disability cards.
Non-governmental organisation Tanjung Malim Community Volunteers and Welfare Team founder Yee Jee Kwong said it was important for people with disabilities to renew their cards and update their personal details so that they could receive benefits from relevant agencies.
“Apart from receiving free treatment at public hospitals, they can also get 50% discounts on public transport, free passports, driving licences and many other benefits,” he said in a press release.
He had said this after presenting food boxes to 10 underprivileged families alongside Behrang assemblyman Salina Samsudin’s service team.
Yee said he had encountered a number of people with disabilities, who had yet to change to the new disability card that features a QR code.
“Some have not updated details like their address and telephone number since they were children.
“Some were unaware (of the change), some had difficulties filling in the registration or application forms while others needed specialist doctors to verify their mental conditions,” said Yee.
He said the Muallim district Health Department was holding a campaign to promote card renewals.
“We hope the families of these people with disabilities can help them.
“Only a passport-size photograph with a blue background is required for card renewal.
“They can always call the Muallim Welfare Department at 05-452 9644 or visit the office in Slim River for advice,” he said.
Yee said he had assisted a woman with mental health and mobility issues apply for a card.
“Her card was obtained at the end of August.
“We also helped her get more aid from the Welfare Department,” he added.
