Mohd Haffiz says the city council has taken down 4,204 unauthorised advertisements, including those linked to loan sharks.
Johor Baru City Council (MBJB) has taken action against 169 foreigners for operating stalls illegally around the city as of July this year.
Mayor Datuk Mohd Haffiz Ahmad said the city council also took action in the same period against 112 premises for operating without a licence.
“As of July, the council carried out a total of 931 operations.
“We have also conducted 40 joint operations with other government agencies, such as police and Immigration Department,” he said in his speech during the MBJB full board meeting.
He further said the local council took down 4,204 unauthorised advertisements, including those linked to loan sharks.
“The advertisements did not have permits or approval, and some were placed along protocol roads or in other prohibited areas,” he added.
MBJB issued a total of 76,318 compounds for various offences under Road Transport Act 1987 (Act 333), including 236 for obstructing vehicles or businesses along pavements, back lanes, five-foot ways and other areas.
Action was also taken against 323 commercial and heavy vehicles parked in public areas within Johor Baru city.
“These vehicles have been referred to Johor Road Transport Department and the police for further checks and action.
“At the same time, 5,476 vehicles were towed as they were abandoned vehicles or causing obstruction,” he said.
On another matter, Mohd Haffiz said MBJB approved Deepavali bazaars involving four business associations.
“We hope the traders and organisers will adhere to the regulations in operating the bazaars, to ensure harmony during the festive period.
He reminded traders to keep their stalls clean and ensure food handlers get typhoid shots, and to not to set up more tents than allowed or wash utensils or dispose of food waste on the road.
The bazaars will be located at Jalan Segget, Jalan Trus and Jalan Ungku Puan in downtown Johor Baru and Jalan Titiwangsa in Tampoi.
