A SEA of green and charm of the Irish were the order of the day during Shamrock Run Malaysia 2025 at Putrajaya Wetlands Park.

The event hosted by Malaysian Irish Alumni Association (MIAA) and the Irish Embassy celebrated strong ties between the people of Malaysia and Ireland.

Flagging off the participants was Irish ambassador to Malaysia Orla Tunney, accompanied by MIAA president Hafidz Kosai Mohd Zihim and O’Briens Irish Sandwich Café Malaysia managing director Brian Pua.

In a statement by MIAA, Hafidz said the run, now in its sixth edition following a hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic, “brought together a diverse group of friends of Ireland and Malaysia, be they first-time runners or seasoned athletes, to celebrate Malaysian and Irish cultures.”

Tunney said the fun event served as a great platform for growing people-to-people relationships between both countries.

“I commend the inclusive nature of the event and also the tremendous atmosphere that was created by all attendees.”

Participants were encouraged to showcase the symbols of Malaysia and Ireland through their attire, with prizes for the most creatively dressed.

Runner and Belfast’s Queens University graduate Lee Hui Seng said Taman Wetland was turned into a sea of green.

“Many versions of leprechauns and other costumed runners were seen enjoying the run amid the beautiful scenery,” he added.

At the finish line, volunteers handed the runners refreshments that included O’Briens sandwiches.
