A JOYFUL morning is in store for Johoreans as the 17th Johor Baru World Laughter Day promises smiles, fun and laughter.

Johor Baru Happy and Joyous Club president Koh Mui Cheng said more than 800 people are expected to join the event which will start at 7.30am on May 4.

“We have received overwhelming response, especially from children,” she said during a press conference.

This year’s turnout, shared Koh, will see more young people, including at least 200 pupils from SJK (C) Kuo Kuang 2, Skudai, Johor Baru.

“Teachers who previously hosted laughter yoga sessions at their schools witnessed how laughter lifted their students’ spirits.

“Many were so inspired that they registered entire groups for this year’s celebration,” she said, adding that the event will be held at Fo Guang Shan Hsingma Si temple in Taman Sutera Utama, Johor Baru.

The World Laughter Day festivities will feature laughter exercises, laughing contest and activities that promote emotional wellness.

Free T-shirts and refreshments will be given away on a first-come, first-served basis.

Koh said several school and hospital communities which had embraced laughter yoga as part of their activities would also be taking part in the event.

Event organising chairman Danny Loo emphasised the importance of laughter, especially during tough times.

“We cannot let stress con- sume us. We have to face it, embrace it and choose to be happier.

“More importantly, laughter connects people. We want more families to come together and embrace laughter,” he said.

Loo added that Skudai assemblyman Marina Ibrahim is expected to launch the event.
