SUBANG Jaya City Council (MBSJ) will push forward its digital transformation agenda as it seeks to strengthen delivery of urban services while shaping a more sustainable, efficient and future-ready city.
“As urban populations grow, expectations for faster, more accessible public services increase and local authorities are under growing pressure to modernise traditional systems,” said Selangor Islamic religious affairs and cultural innovation committee chairman Dr Mohammad Fahmi Ngah.
He said MBSJ’s digitalisation offered an opportunity to streamline processes, improve coordination and provide residents with more convenient access to city council services.
“The transformation plan is expected to place greater emphasis on the use of digital platforms, data-driven decision-making and smarter urban management,” Fahmi said after launching Subang Jaya Smart City Action Plan 2035 in Shah Alam, together with Subang Jaya mayor Datuk Rumaizi Baharin, PlanMalaysia deputy director-general Datuk Rozita Hamit and MBSJ Planning Department director Hazman Mohd Mahayudin.
Fahmi said these tools could help MBSJ monitor city operations more effectively, identify emerging issues and service requests in a timely manner.
“MBSJ’s digital strategy is also closely linked to its broader sustainability goals.
“Integration of technology into areas such as traffic monitoring, infrastructure maintenance, public facilities and environmental management can support more efficient use of resources while reducing unnecessary costs and environmental impact.”
He said digitalisation could also strengthen public engagement.
“Greater transparency and accessibility could, in turn, foster stronger public confidence and collaboration between the city council, residents and other stakeholders.”
Rumaizi said the action plan was much needed as Subang Jaya moved towards smart-city solutions to address complex urban challenges.
He said the goal was not simply to digitise existing services, but to rethink how urban services were planned, delivered and evaluated, with the aim of advancing the digital transformation agenda alongside its sustainability priorities.
MBSJ councillor EJ Christopher said the action plan could create an urban environment where technology worked hand in hand with good governance to deliver better services, support sustainable development and improve quality of life for the city’s growing community.
The event also saw several booths set up to give participants an understanding of how technology was used to manage city services in an efficient manner.
