State aims to strengthen semiconductor, digital economy ecosystems at October meet
SELANGOR is targeting RM8bil in potential transactions and at least 500 business-matching meetings through the 10th Selangor International Business Summit (SIBS).
The four-day summit, set for Oct 14 to 17 at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, was aimed at strengthening ecosystems around selected industries, said Selangor investment, trade and mobility committee chairman Ng Sze Han.
“Our biggest hope is to build a more complete ecosystem for the industries we are promoting, such as semiconductors, aerospace, automotive, the digital economy and the creative economy,” Ng said after the launch of SIBS 2026 in Petaling Jaya.
The transaction target is slightly below the RM8.17bil generated by SIBS last year.
Invest Selangor chief executive officer Datuk Hasan Azhari Idris said SIBS had developed into a regional business platform in the last 10 years.
“Over the past decade, we have cultivated a platform for businesses to connect, innovate and expand across Asean and beyond.”
The career expo will connect employers with students and graduates in fields including electrical and electronics, life sciences, food manufacturing, transport equipment, machinery, logistics services and digital investment.
The semiconductor conference on Oct 15 will feature more than 20 speakers, including FuriosaAI founder June Paik and former Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company executive vice-president and co-chief operating officer Dr Chiang Shang-Yi.
It is expected to involve more than 150 companies and include separate sessions on artificial intelligence and semiconductors, while also featuring a recruitment programme involving 35 semiconductor companies.
In conjunction with SIBS, the third EU-Malaysia Business Day will be held at the convention centre on Oct 13.
Hosted by the delegation of the European Union to Malaysia in collaboration with the state government, Invest Selangor and Eurocham Malaysia, the event is expected to attract about 700 participants and ambassadors from more than 15 EU member states.
According to Invest Selangor, more than 550 EU companies operating in the state generate over RM51bil in combined annual revenue.
Ng said Selangor recorded RM33.5bil in approved investments in the first quarter of this year, the highest among all states in the country.
He added that manufacturing and related activities, including the electrical and electronics industry, was expected to remain among Selangor’s main investment drivers in subsequent quarters.
Also present at the event were state women empowerment and welfare committee chairman Anfaal Saari, Selangor Technical Skills Development Centre chief executive officer Dr Harizal Hamid, Sidec Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Yong Kai Ping, Menteri Besar Incorporated Selangor group chief executive officer Datuk Saipolyazan M. Yusop and Wanita Berdaya Selangor Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Siti Faridah Abdul Samad.
