KLANG Royal City Council (MBDK) has approved RM3.1mil to build two public parks and improve urban spaces.
Mayor Datuk Abd Hamid Hussain said the approved allocation was also for soft landscaping.
He said the total sum would cover building two parks − at Lebuh Sungai Keramat in Taman Klang Utama and at Jalan Bukit Kerayong in Pandamaran, costing RM500,000 each.
“Other landscape upgrading projects are at Taman Rakyat (RM1mil), Padang Sultan Suleiman (RM500,000), outside MBDK headquarters (RM400,000), at Chi Liung roundabout as well as Persiaran Seraya and Persiaran Pegaga in Taman Bayu Perdana (RM200,000),” he said.
After the full board meeting, Abd Hamid told StarMetro that more green spaces were needed to act as a natural sponge during rain to mitigate flooding.
“We will use unused parcel of lands to introduce greenery into urban surroundings.
“Green spaces will also help to alleviate stress on urban drainage networks and contribute to a better environment,” he said.
On tree management, Abd Hamid said MBDK had allocated RM6mil to trim, prune and cut down rotting trees which posed risks during strong winds and heavy rain.
“MBDK has appointed 24 contractors and work should begin in the second week of April.”
He said the work was expected to take four months.
