MySaveFood rescues over 2.5 tonnes of food

MPAJ rescuing surplus food that was unsold by traders.

AMPANG Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) has saved more than two tonnes of food through the MySaveFood programme across three MPAJ Ramadan bazaars.

The initiative is a collaboration with the Malaysian Youth Organisation to tackle food wastage in the community.

It encourages bazaar traders to rescue surplus food and reduce food wastage, which aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

The programme was also aimed at cutting down on the amount of food waste that would be sent to landfill sites.

The programme, which ran from March 7 to 20, collected 2,543.82kg of food and beverages from Ramadan bazaars in Pandan Indah, Bandar Baru Ampang and Kompleks Muhibbah Taman Nirwana.

The saved food was distributed to mosques, surau and orphanages.
