Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) has provided over 700 free breakfasts to underprivileged school children in its jurisdiction.
The “MPAJ Kasih: Hidangan Berkhasiat di Sekolah” programme, in collaboration with the district health office and MPAJ Residents’ Committee (JKP), is conducted weekly.
The meals aligned with Health Ministry dietary guidelines and United Nations Sustainable Development Goals on no poverty, zero hunger as well as good health and well-being, MPAJ said in a press statement.
“Since its rollout in May this year, breakfast meals funded by an allocation of more than RM3,500 have been distributed to students at several schools including SK Taman Melawati, SK Klang Gate and SMK Tasek Permai.
“These meals also help to instil healthy eating habits.
“The programme will continue to be expanded to other schools to benefit more students,” the council added.
The programme has also received a boost thanks to a RM5,000 donation from Tengku Zafrul Aziz (TZA) Foundation.
The mock cheque was presented by Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz to MPAJ deputy president Hasrolnizam Shaari during the official launch of the programme and in conjunction with the MPAJ Car-Free Day at Tasek Tambahan Recreational Park.
Meanwhile, in a social media post about the event, Tengku Zafrul, a former minister, said no child should go to school with an empty stomach.
“This might look like a small initiative. However, when children are fed, they can focus more on learning and have better opportunities to reach their potential,” he said.
