IPOH: About 100 plastic chairs have been donated to the Taiping Hospital by Neow Choo Seong.
Neow, who is MCA Youth information chief, said the contributions were meant to resolve the lack of chairs at the hospital, following a viral post on Facebook that saw people sitting on the floor outside the Radiology and X-ray Department.
"The hospital is one of the oldest in the country, and there will be needs for certain facilities and equipment.
"The hospital not only serves Taiping, but also areas in the northern region like Gerik or Parit Buntar, so there are a lot of patients and visitors," he said after presenting the chairs to hospital deputy director Hafizah Ahmad on Thursday (Aug 14).
"Being a Taiping boy myself, and the hospital is where I was born, my intention is only to help," he added.
A post on the incident has gone viral on social media earlier this week.
Neow also said more attention should be given to the hospital to ensure the well-being of visitors and that its conditions are up to a certain standard.
He said the hospital management had been pressured by an individual earlier not to receive the chairs from him.
"I believe assistance or aid from individuals or organisations should be welcomed, as it is for the public interest.
"If they cannot help, don't stop others from helping," he said.
