A proposal for a new government clinic in Bandar Baru Bangi has been submitted to the Health Ministry as a high-priority project under the 13th Malaysia Plan to ease overcrowding at existing healthcare facilities in Hulu Langat district.
State public health and environment committee chairman Jamaliah Jamaluddin said Klinik Kesihatan (Health Clinic) Tasik Cempaka would improve access to primary healthcare services and reduce congestion at government clinics in Kajang, Bandar Baru Bangi and Sungai Chua.
“Around 168,260 residents will benefit from a more systematic redistribution of service coverage areas,” Jamaliah said during the Selangor State Assembly sitting at Bangunan Dewan Negeri Selangor in Shah Alam yesterday.
She was responding to a question from Cheong Kian Young (PH-Kajang), who asked whether the state government planned to build a new health clinic in Kajang to cater to its growing population.
Jamaliah said Klinik Kesihatan Kajang is a Type 3 facility designed to handle 300 to 500 patients daily.
“However, the clinic was treating up to 1,690 patients a day in 2025 due to rapid population growth in Mukim Kajang, which now exceeds 457,000 residents,” she said.
According to the Selangor State Health Facility Master Plan 2025-2045 (2026 Amendment), several other healthcare facility development projects had been proposed to enhance services in Hulu Langat, particularly Kajang.
“However, there are constraints in developing healthcare facilities under the Health Ministry on land registered under the Federal Land Commissioner (PTP).
“Therefore, cooperation among state government agencies is needed to identify suitable land for healthcare facilities in Kajang,” Jamaliah said.
She said pending approval for new sites, the Hulu Langat District Health Office had implemented measures to manage crowds at the Kajang clinic.
“These include strengthening patient flow, appointment-based admissions, treatment slot bookings using the MySejahtera application and medicine lockers for stable chronic patients.
“We are also optimising nearby sites, such as Klinik Kesihatan Semenyih, which opened on March 2, to redistribute patient loads in the area.”
Regarding the proposed health clinic in Bandar Mahkota Cheras, Jamaliah said the state health department had identified Klinik Kesihatan Bandar Mahkota Cheras, a Type 3 health clinic, as a priority project under the master plan.
“It acts as a replacement for Klinik Kesihatan Sungai Sekamat and is expected to serve around 86,086 residents of Bandar Mahkota Cheras, reducing the burden on nearby clinics.
“The Hulu Langat District Health Office has identified a 1.21ha site owned by the PTP under the Education Ministry as a potential location for the clinic,” she said.
