S’gor councils act on public complaints

KUALA Langat Municipal Council (MPKL) has followed up on public complaints about illegal dumping in Jenjarom.

The local council carried out an operation to clear piles of rubbish found near a roadside eatery in Taman Rambai Indah.

MPKL also erected a sign warning offenders during another cleanup of an illegal dumpsite in Taman Ria.

In media statements, MPKL said the operations were aimed at keeping pests and pollution in the municipality under control.

“We warn that strict action will be taken against anyone found dumping waste indiscriminately and illegally,” it said.

“MPKL is calling on residents to be mindful of where they throw rubbish, as cleanliness is our shared responsibility.”

A hub for various industrial activities, Kuala Langat has seen an increased number of illegal dumpsites including e-waste disposal sites in recent years.

On July 12 last year, Kuala Langat MP Datuk Dr Ahmad Yunus Hairi, who is also Sijangkang assemblyman, raised concerns about this issue in his constituency and urged the authorities to take action.

He said open burning was a common occurrence at night.

Separately, an Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) operation at a construction site in Kemensah Heights near Taman Melawati found it to be in deplorable condition.

The area was dotted with stagnant water which had the potential of becoming breeding grounds for mosquitoes.

“Larvaciding was carried out around the construction area to prevent mosquitoes from multiplying,” the local council said in a media statement.

“One compound was issued under Section 74 of Local Government Act 1976 (Act 171) for allowing potential mosquito breeding grounds to go unchecked.”

A verbal warning was also given to the site safety officer and workers, according to the MPAJ statement.

Meanwhile, an enforcement operation at Jalan Samudera Barat 1 in Taman Samudera saw Selayang Municipal Council (MPS) enforcers seizing wares belonging to several traders for causing obstruction.

Photos shared on social media showed a number of tents housing various items taking up several parking bays in a commercial area.

Confiscated items included 100 chairs, a mobile stall, four tents and cooking equipment.

Also seized were six gas cylinders, two refrigerators and several stoves, according to the MPS media statement.
