Battle between Shah Alam division chief and deputy on the cards in PKR polls

SELANGOR youth, sports and entrepreneurship committee chairman Mohd Najwan Halimi will be contesting the post of Parti Keadlian Rakyat (PKR) Shah Alam division chief in the party election next month.

The Kota Anggerik assemblyman said he was offering himself to lead the 15,000 members, and aimed to strengthen the Shah Alam division.

He told reporters this at a press conference during the International Women's Day celebration and iftar event at MBSA Convention Centre in Shah Alam yesterday.

PKR Youth Shah Alam division chief Muhd Izuan Ahmad Kasim, when met at the same press conference, expressed his wing's support for Najwan's leadership.

“We want to bring fresh energy and we feel there is a need for renewal.

“We in the youth wing believe this is necessary," he said.

Mohd Najwan, who is Shah Alam PKR deputy chief, will be going up against current division head and Ampang MP Rodziah Ismail.

Rodziah has confirmed she would defend her seat while also planning to contest for the post of PKR Wanita chief, challenging incumbent Fadhlina Sidek, who is Education Minister.

Mohd Najwan also announced his willingness to contest a position at the national level.

However, he told reporters that he wants to focus on Shah Alam for now and would provide further updates later.

PKR is scheduled to hold elections at the division level from April 11 to 20, while the central leadership election is slotted for May 24.
