FOR more than 220 years, the Kapitan Keling Mosque committee has been giving out bubur lambuk to the public during Ramadan and the tradition continues.

Its secretary Mohd Rizwan Abdul Ghafoor Khan said the committee would prepare 500 bowls of bubur lambuk to be distributed.

“The bubur is vegetarian, so everyone can enjoy it.

“We buy the ingredients using donations from our members and the public.

“This has been the mosque’s tradition for over two centuries.”

The Kapitan Keling Mosque was established in 1801 by Kapitan Cauder (Kader) Mohideen primarily to serve the South Indian Muslim community living nearby.

The committee teamed up with Kelab Media Mutiara Pulau Pinang to give away the bubur lambuk, popiah and a packet of chicken curry spice powder.

Club president Mohd Iskandar Othman said donations came from seven local companies, and this was the second time they had organised such an event with the mosque committee.

“We also prepared extra to give away to our media colleagues in other companies.

“The club will also be handing out food for sahur to the police, Fire and Rescue Department, Civil Defence Force and Penang Hospital staff,” he added. -– By BERNARD SEE
