A GRAND cultural performance will be held in August as the finale to Ipoh City Music Month.

Perak tourism committee chairman Loh Sze Yee said the event would feature performers from Nanning, China (Ipoh’s sister city) and Malaysia.

The Ipoh and Nanning Interna-tional Cultural Performance will take place at Sungai Kinta, near Jalan Sultan Iskandar, on Aug 13.

“We will receive a special delegation from Nanning showcasing various cultural performances and music.

“It is a symbol of the close relations between Malaysia and China through arts and culture,” he said.

On the ongoing Ipoh City Music Month, Loh said there would be a variety of activities.

“The celebration is not just about performances. It is also a movement to make music an identity of the city.

“We’ll also have a fun run, workshops, singing and orchestra performances,” he said, adding that Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry had allocated RM100,000 for the celebration.

Loh was speaking at a press conference following the launch and prize presentation ceremony for the Third International Harmony Music Cup Competition at Ipoh Convention Centre.

Present were Tourism Perak chief executive officer Suhaimi Abu Hassan Shari and Ipoh Cultural and Chinese Orchestra Association chairman Chris Kok.

Loh said about 3,000 people from 100 teams, including from Taiwan and China, participated in the competition, with the winner invited to perform during the grand cultural show.

“The competition celebrates our diversity in performing arts,” he said.

Ipoh was recognised by Unesco as a Creative City of Music in 2023.
