Candidate pledges to set up daycare centres for elderly in Jelutong if he wins

PERIKATAN Nasional’s Datuk Baljit Singh has pledged to build daycare centres for the elderly if he wins the Jelutong parliamentary seat in Penang.

He said there were daycare centres for children but none for the elderly.

“If elected, I will use the constituency allocation to set up such centres, the location of which will be identified later.

“The centres will have trained medical staff,” he said.

He added that he would use parliamentary funds to set up a kitchen to provide free food for the hardcore poor.

Baljit, who spoke at the launch of his manifesto at the Perikatan service centre in Jalan Kuantan, said the constituency allocation would be managed in a transparent manner if he was elected.

“I also plan to revive the now defunct Voluntary Patrol Unit but this time, it will not be subject to political influence.

“Its members will have to undergo police training,” he said when announcing his manifesto in a press conference.

On his promises themed “Makan Kari Mee, Jangan Makan Rasuah!” (Eat Curry Mee, Don’t Take Bribes), Baljit, the Gerakan national vice-chairman said the ingredients in curry noodles represented Chinese, Indians and Malays, adding that “all these races are against corruption”.

His five promises are combating corruption, ensuring that repair works at flats and apartments are carried out, providing affordable homes, tackling flood issues and providing social and welfare support to reduce the high cost of living.

The Jelutong seat will see a six-way contest including incumbent RSN Rayer from Pakatan Harapan, Warisan’s Lim Huat Poh, Parti Rakyat Malaysia’s Koh Swe Yong, Barisan Nasional’s Datuk Loganathan Thoraisamy and Independent Mohamed Yacoob Mohamed Noor.
