MPAJ tears down illegal extensions to ground floor flat

MPAJ demolishing structures connected to an illegal extention at Blok 4 of Flat UTM in Jalan AU3/1 on May 25.

THE Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) demolished structures connected to an illegal extension of a ground floor residential unit at Blok 4 of Flat UTM in Jalan AU3/1.

In a Facebook post, MPAJ said the May 25 demolition was carried out because the owner of the unit had gone against the Street, Drainage and Building Act 1974 (Act 133) and Strata Management Act 2013 (Act 757).

As such, the local council acted to take down structures that were built in the block's common area.

“Stratified residences like flats, apartments and condominiums are tied to Act 757, whereby the property owner's space is confined to their lot only.

“The safety of other residents must also be taken into account, because such extensions may hamper emergency responders from their rescue work during disasters,” it stated.

MPAJ also advised property owners to seek advice from the council's Commissioner of Buildings, adding that it can be reached at 03-42857110.
