AMPANG Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) has stepped up enforcement efforts, going door-to-door to recover nearly RM500,000 in unpaid assessment taxes.
The assessment tax operation, carried out by MPAJ Revenue Department’s consult and pay unit, involved visits to 28 properties in Taman Tun Abdul Razak owing assessment taxes exceeding RM10,000 each.
In total, the arrears amounted to RM492,538.24.
Of the properties inspected, seven were vacant homes, accounting for RM164,048.21 in arrears.
MPAJ, in a statement, said enforcement action would be taken against property owners who failed to settle their taxes.
The local council reminded ratepayers that assessment tax must be paid by Feb 28 for the first half of the year and Aug 31 for the second half.
MPAJ urged timely payments to avoid enforcement action, including seizures.
Separately, MPAJ culled 311 crows as part of efforts to curb the growing nuisance caused by the birds in parks, recreational areas and other public spaces.
MPAJ Crow Shooting Operation 2026 involved 18 licensed shooters, with a reward of RM10 per crow.
Hotspots with large crow populations include Pandan Mewah, Pandan Jaya, Taman Keramat AU2A and around the Ampang Point and Taman Melawati commercial areas.
A similar operation in 2025 resulted in 567 crows culled.
MPAJ said the initiative was aimed at controlling the crow population in a regulated manner to maintain a cleaner, safer and more conducive urban environment for residents.
The operation would also help reduce disturbances and potential health risks associated with crows in public areas, it said.
