Eco-tourism site in Ampang to be legalised soon

ECO-tourism destinations in Selangor, such as the one in Kemensah, Ampang, are in the process of being legalised.

“The state is in the midst of legalising operations at Kemensah as almost all tourism-related operations there are illegal, ” said state environment, green technology, science, technology and innovation and consumer affairs committee chairman Hee Loy Sian.

He said this in response to a question from Saari Sungib (PH-Hulu Kelang) on Kemensah’s status and whether it would be renamed as a recreational destination in Selangor.

“All tourism activities there must go through the legalisation process because there are technical issues that must be ironed out before the licence application can be processed by the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ).”

Hee explained that buildings and infrastructure in the Kemensah forest reserve were built more than 10 years ago and were not licensed.

He said MPAJ had set up a

committee to tackle the legalisation of the Kemensah eco-tourism site.

“I am very supportive of recreational and tourism efforts like this and we have seen this happening in other forest reserves like Hulu Langat and Hulu Selangor as well.

“It has to go through the legalisation process first and I will make sure that Kemensah is legalised the proper way, ” he added.
