GOPENG: Dissolving the Perak state assembly prematurely will derail critical development agenda and penalise voters, says Sandrea Ng Shy Ching.
Rejecting growing calls from the Barisan Nasional and Umno leadership for early polls, the Perak housing and local government committee chairman said the administration requires the remaining term to deliver high-impact state initiatives.
"It would be a loss for the people to dissolve the assembly after just three years. It disrupts government affairs and ongoing development plans," Ng told reporters following a public outreach event at the Kampung Baru Lawan Kuda multipurpose hall on Saturday (Sept 5).
The Teja assemblyman from PKR noted that the Perak unity government led by Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad retains strong momentum, supported by steady federal funding allocations and positive local economic indicators.
Her remarks directly address recent factional pressure within the ruling alliance advocating for synchronised early state and federal polls ahead of the current term's expiration late in 2027.
"Although the state government comprises different parties, there is solid cooperation under the leadership of the Mentri Besar.
"We need to utilise the remaining year to complete our planned agendas rather than rush into an early dissolution," Ng said.
She also outlined incoming policy priorities, confirming that the state is formulating senior-friendly housing adaptations for the Perak 2027 Budget to address the state's ageing demographic. The initiative will launch via targeted district pilot projects aimed at attracting private-sector partnerships.
