As travel becomes increasingly shaped by digital behaviour and younger holidayers, Malaysia is redefining how it attracts Chinese visitors with the launch of the Visit Malaysia 2026 Digital Cultural Card – a new tourism engagement tool designed to introduce the country long before travellers even board a plane.

The initiative is aimed at China’s digitally savvy travel market, with the card serving not just as a promotional tool, but also as a travel guide, rewards programme and cultural discovery platform.

Operated and produced by NQ Cultural Commercial, in collaboration with a handful of Malaysian and Chinese business partners, the Digital Cultural Card is launched thorugh the China Intternet Information Centre's "China Art Cloud" platform. It is an interactive virtual pass that is aimed to help boost interest in Malaysia by presenting the country through a more immersive and engaging online experience.

The virtual card offers a curated introduction to Malaysia through destination highlights, cultural heritage, food stories, shopping ideas, practical travel tips and recommended experiences.

Registered members of “cardholders” will be invited to join dedicated social media communities on major Chinese platforms, where they can engage with campaign content and explore curated Malaysia travel packages offered by participating tour operators.

Users in China can also collect points by engaging with both the platform and its connected online communities. Points are earned through activities such as completing profiles, browsing featured attractions, joining quizzes, sharing campaign content and interacting with cultural stories centred on Malaysian festivals, heritage and cuisine.

Each interaction becomes part of a gamified digital journey that brings Malaysia closer before the trip even starts.

Those points then serve as a travel conversion tool. Once users decide to visit Malaysia, the points they have accumulated can be redeemed with participating merchants – such as hotels and museums – and tourism partners across the country.

Through this cross-border rewards system, points can be exchanged for attraction discounts, hotel perks, food and beverage promotions, shopping offers and other tourism-related benefits.
