BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Two local men have been sentenced to prison and caning for breaking into Sayyidina Umar Al-Khattab Secondary School in Kampong Lupak Luas and stealing items, the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) said.
Hardi Juddin, 43, was sentenced to 36 months’ imprisonment and two strokes of the cane, while Mohammad Noor Hilmi Awang Ahmad, 38, received 30 months’ imprisonment and two strokes.
The sentences were handed down on Oct 26, with both men’s prison terms ordered to run concurrently from Oct 19, 2026.
Investigations found that the two men entered the school premises several times between Oct 9 and 16, stealing a laptop, two portable speakers, two closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras and cash.
In one incident, they used a key taken during an earlier break-in to gain entry to the school.
The principal’s office door and security grilles on the windows of several rooms were also damaged.
Police recovered some of the stolen property, including the laptop. The first incident was detected by the school’s night watchman, while CCTV footage also assisted the investigation.
