Over 6,700 evacuated in Myanmar's Ayeyarwady region after embankment breach

YANGON: (Bernama-Xinhua) A total of 6,747 people from 1,333 households have been evacuated after the Ngawun River embankment breached in Laymyethna township in Myanmar's Ayeyarwady region, the township administration team said on Saturday (Aug 1), reported Xinhua.

The team said that sand boils and land subsidence contributed to the embankment breach, which occurred on Thursday.

No injuries or deaths of people have been reported so far, it added.

Affected residents have been moved to relief camps, where authorities are distributing drinking water, food and other emergency relief supplies. - Bernama-Xinhua
