Fire in 1 Utama food court, causes morning crawl along LDP

PETALING JAYA: A fire broke out at the food court in the 1 Utama shopping centre here Friday morning, causing a traffic crawl along the nearby Damansara-Puchong Expressway (LDP) as curious motorists slowed down to watch the large plume of smoke coming from the building.

When contacted, a 1 Utama spokesman confirmed that a fire broke out at the Food Republic food court in the new wing of the shopping mall.

"We can confirm there was a small fire which started from the kitchen of one of the stalls at Food Republic. The fire did not spread and was extinguished soon after."

She said no one was hurt in the incident, and the mall opened for business as usual at 10am.

"The management is waiting for a report on the cause of the fire and will conduct an inquiry into the matter," she added.

A spokesman from the Damansara Utama Fire and Rescue Department said the fire had already been put out by mall staff when firemen arrived at the scene at 9.30am.
