I couldn’t help but laugh my heart out when my colleague told me that he was afraid of staying in budget hotels in Malacca that had been renovated from old shophouses. What was there to be afraid of?

These old shophouses were designed to be narrow in width and great in length, mainly to avoid paying hefty taxes during the colonial era, so the walk to your room at the rear end of the hotel can be a rather long and lonely one. Moreover, the coolness of the interior can make the place seem eerie.
