Liek Hou continues to push boundaries despite long and celebrated career

PETALING JAYA: Even with a long and decorated career already etched into Malaysia’s sporting history, national para badminton ace Cheah Liek Hou is far from done.

The two-time Paralympic gold medallist continues to push boundaries, proving that his journey is still unfolding.

As The Star celebrates its 55th anniversary, Liek Hou reflected not just on his own path, but on the role the publication has played alongside it.

“Congratulations to The Star on 55 years of excellence. It’s a truly remarkable milestone for a long-standing Malaysian institution,” said the 38-year-old.

“I am personally grateful for the tremendous support it has shown throughout my career, and continues to do so as well.”

Liek Hou’s career speaks for itself. He is now the country’s most decorated world champion with nine consecutive titles in the singles and seven titles in the doubles.

He reached the milestone after winning at the World Championships in Manama, Bahrain, in February, making it 16 titles since his debut at the Hsinchu world meet in 2005.

For Liek Hou, the support he has received goes beyond headlines; it represents recognition of the sacrifices, discipline and resilience required to compete at the highest level.

“The coverage and dedication to the truth has made a lasting impact.
