PETALING JAYA: Newly paired men’s doubles pair Tee Kai Wun-Yap Roy King marked their third tournament together with a victory by winning the Korean Masters, defeating compatriots Man Wei Chong-Soh Wooi Yik on Sunday (Aug 9).
Kai Wun, facing his former teammate Wei Chong, got the job done with Roy King to beat Wei Chong-Wooi Yik 21-13, 21-18 in just 31 minutes at the Yi Sun-sin Gymnasium in Asan.
The victory marked a breakthrough campaign for Kai Wun-Roy King after their first two tournaments together at the China Open and Taipei Open ended in the opening rounds.
The duo entered the final with a slight advantage in energy compared to Wei Chong-Wooi Yik, having not had to take to the court in the semi-finals after their Japanese opponents, Shuji Sawada-Daigo Tanioka, withdrew.
Wei Chong-Wooi Yik had booked their maiden final appearance in their fourth competition together after defeating Japan’s Haruki Kawabe-Kenta Matsukawa in a three-game clash that lasted almost an hour in the semis.
