The proposed recreation park on an open space along Jalan PJS1/30 in Petaling Jaya, Selangor, will cost about RM400,000.
Selangor local government and tourism committee chairman Datuk Ng Suee Lim said work is expected to start next year, depending on Petaling Jaya City Council’s (MBPJ) budget.
“Besides turning it into a recreation space, the project will make the open space safer, more conducive and people-friendly.
“It also aims to improve landscape quality and establish a greener, more liveable and sustainable city,” he said during the state assembly sitting at Bangunan Dewan Negeri Selangor in Shah Alam on Aug 10.
Ng was responding to Dr Afif Bahardin (PN-Taman Medan) on MBPJ’s plans for more parks in Petaling Jaya and transforming the Sungai Klang riverbank into a linear park.
He said MBPJ drafted the Damansara Damai People’s Park Landscape Masterplan in line with the Petaling Jaya Strategic Plan 2030's aspirations.
“According to the masterplan, five urban parks will be developed with priority being given to recreation, environment conservation, biodiversity, community involvement and low-carbon city development.
“One of the parks is Taman Damai Belantara, or Urban Park 3, which will be developed in phases starting next year.
"This park will focus on nature education, with elements such as an urban farming area, an amphitheatre and an information gallery planned to support outdoor learning.
“Meanwhile, the upgrades for Taman Damai Setia, or Urban Park 1, have started this year and will continue in phases next year.
"A family recreation zone, multipurpose hall, bioswale, compost centre and stalls operation site will be built there,” he added.
On turning Sungai Klang riverbank into a linear park, Ng said part of the river reserve zones around the Sungai Klang and Sungai Penchala will be developed into a green corridor and recreation space, based on the Petaling Jaya Landscape Masterplan.
“The upgrade will also connect the riverbanks with commercial and residential areas through the construction of facilities such as walkways,” he said, adding that the projects are long-term plans dependent on MBPJ’s budget and priorities.
