It’s not just the numbers that matter

HOME Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail recently announced that the number of missing persons cases has remained relatively stable over the past five years. Citing police data from 2020 to June 2024, he said the number remained at about 900 cases annually.

“Of the reported cases annually, the percentage of those who are safely found is high, ranging between 85% and 90%. So, the percentage of missing victims remains around 10% to 15%,” he was quoted as saying, “Missing persons cases not rising” (The Star, July 24).
