Hong Kong actor Ai Wai has bid farewell to his late wife Lisa Chan, who died from liver disease on May 18 while awaiting a transplant. She was 61.

A funeral was held on Sunday (June 15) morning at the Universal Funeral Parlour in Hung Hom, with her cremation taking place afterward at the Wo Hop Shek Crematorium.

Photos taken by Hong Kong media captured Ai Wai dressed in white at the funeral hall, appearing visibly exhausted and overwhelmed with grief.

Speaking to reporters present at the scene, the actor revealed that he’s been struggling emotionally, enduring many sleepless nights since his wife’s passing.

“I’m afraid I might say the wrong thing (during interviews) because I haven’t been sleeping well. There’s been a lot going on, and I’m not in the right state of mind. I even forgot to bring several items for the funeral today,” the 66-year-old shared.

Ai Wai added that he won’t say much and expressed gratitude to those who had responded to his call for a liver donor for his wife last month. The couple have been married since 2002.

“There were around 20 of them. I only remembered to reply to each one of them last night. That’s all I will say for now. Thank you for your kindness,” he said.

According to reports, Chan had been battling polycystic liver and kidney disease for years and underwent a surgery in 2015 to remove a 6kg uterine tumour.

Her condition took a turn for the worse in March when she developed jaundice and swelling.

She was later admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) after contracting a bacterial infection and experiencing a buildup of toxins in her body.
