Celebrate artistic diversity: Concerts boost economic recovery

PETALING JAYA: Holding concerts and music festivals in Sabah is not only a great way to celebrate music and culture of various races and ethnicities, but it is also a good way to help the pandemic-hit economy recover, says state Wanita MCA.

Below is their in full.

Sabah is a state rich in diversity, comprising people of many different religions, races and ethnicities. Our diverse society here has lived side by side peacefully for generations, and we respect and care for each other. Holding many different cultural and artistic activities has never been a problem, and are most welcome in Sabah.

Sabah MCA fully supports the statement by the political secretary to Sabah Chief Minister Ceasar Mandela Malakun, who said that Sabah is a "land of music and songs", because this is indeed the indisputable truth.

It is not an offence under any state legislation for foreign artistes to hold concerts in Sabah. In fact, they are most welcome to perform here, because simultaneously, such concerts can stimulate the growth of Sabah's domestic economy and the tourism sector which will certainly benefit the people of Sabah.

For those who are not in the know, Sabah is home to 39 different ethnic groups, each with its own unique customs and cultures. That is why we in Sabah are able to understand and mutually respect each other, in accordance with the Federal Constitution which preserves the rights and freedoms of all.

Sabah MCA is also of the opinion that racial and cultural diversity is not an obstacle to national unity, but rather a catalyst that can foster national unity whilst highlighting the uniqueness of our country.

Therefore, diversity should be celebrated, instead of being subjected to hatred and incitement that divide society.

Since Malaysia has already reopened its borders, let us all open our minds and accept that the staging of cultural and artistic events such as concerts can bring great benefits to the people and the country, as well as help towards Malaysia's post-Covid-19 economic recovery.
