PORT DICKSON: Chinese voters should vote strategically and reject parties that have performed poorly, says Datuk Chong Sin Woon.
The MCA secretary-general said Chinese voters had let DAP dominate Chinese-majority seats for years and had received arrogance in return.
He said the community had gone without an MCA assemblyman for more than a decade and Saturday's vote was the chance to change that.
"Chinese voters are not obliged to support one party forever," he said at a ceramah in Chuah on Friday night,.
He said a party left to govern without any check and balance would forget the people who put them there.
"Once you govern for too long, you forget the people," he said.
On the state government's record, Chong said assessment rates had already risen in some areas and would go up further in 2027.
He said that a Barisan Nasional state government would freeze assessment rates for five years and waive hawker licensing fees over the same period, with a one-stop centre to simplify approvals.
"The more people who do business, the better this place will develop," he said.
Chong said Barisan would create 50,000 jobs by attracting higher-quality factories along the Malaysia Vision Valley corridor, dismissing a rival pledge of 500,000 jobs as unbelievable.
He urged residents to vote according to their conscience.
Chong rallied support for Barisan's Chuah candidate, MCA's Pau Jeou Ching, describing him as a young local who would remain easy to find after the election.
Pau faces Yew in a straight fight. Polling is on Saturday (Aug 1).
