BAHAU: The Cabinet has agreed to expand the scope of investigations into the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report on Tabung Haji to include the periods under the Pakatan Harapan 1.0 and Perikatan Nasional 1.0 administrations, says Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
The Deputy Prime Minister said the decision reflected the government’s commitment to transparency and accountability, adding that the move was in the national interest.
“The investigation will not stop at 2020 but will also cover the period under the Pakatan Harapan 1.0 government and the Perikatan Nasional 1.0 administration.
“This openness is, in my view, a very positive step.
“For the sake of the country, we must move forward together,” he said during a press conference here on Friday (July 31).
He said the proposal by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to declassify the RCI report had received the support of all eight Barisan Nasional ministers in the Cabinet.
“Barisan ministers also recommended that any individual or group found to have been involved in misappropriation, criminal breach of trust, negligence or any other criminal offence should be brought before the courts.
“The Cabinet also agreed with our proposal for the report to be tabled in Parliament, with the presentation scheduled for Aug 11,” he added.
