Negri polls: Come home to vote and reconnect with family, urges Dr Wee

PORT DICKSON: Returning home to vote at the Negri Sembilan polls is also an opportunity for outstation voters to reconnect with family, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

The MCA president said polling day, which falls on Saturday (Aug 1), provides outstation voters with the opportunity not only to exercise their democratic right but also reunite with loved ones back home.

"It's a relatively short journey for those based in the Klang Valley. Making the trip back home also means another weekend you can spend with your family.

"The journey home is also not as far when compared to other states," he said when met at a ceramah in Chuah here on Friday (July 31).

Dr Wee said he was optimistic of a good voter turnout on polling day.

"The response from the ground has been encouraging," he said.

The Election Commission has targeted a turnout ranging of 72% to 75%.

A total of 103 candidates are contesting 36 state seats.

Pakatan Harapan is contesting all 36 seats, while Barisan Nasional is contesting 25.

Perikatan Nasional is contesting 11 seats, while Bersatu is contesting 24 under its own party logo.

Berjasa, Parti Orang Asli Malaysia and Parti Sosialis Malaysia are fielding one candidate each, while four Independent candidates are also in the fray.
