PETALING JAYA: Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin welcomed the government's decision to declassify the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report on Tabung Haji, saying it allows the public to assess the commission's findings transparently and fairly.
The former prime minister said the Cabinet approved the RCI's establishment during his administration.
"The release of the report gives the people an opportunity to know and evaluate the commission's findings transparently and fairly," he said in a statement on Friday (July 31).
Muhyiddin, who is also Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia president, said several aspects of the report required further clarification from the government.
Among them, he said, was the forensic audit involving 14 problematic investments that reportedly caused Tabung Haji to incur billions of ringgit in losses.
He also proposed extending the special Parliament sitting scheduled for Aug 11 to debate the RCI report by at least two days.
“A longer debate would allow more Members of Parliament to participate and put forward substantive proposals to strengthen Tabung Haji's management, governance and performance.
“This is important as Tabung Haji remains the country's primary institution responsible for managing the savings, investments and haj affairs of Malaysian Muslims,” he said.
