I REFER to the recent proposal by the Transport Ministry to reduce speed limits in cities, “Transport Ministry mulling suggestions on reducing speed limit in cities” (The Star, Jan 21; online at https://bit.ly/3JWehbS). This proposal has come at an appropriate time for Malaysia.

According to the World Health Organisation, managing speed limits is one of the most effective strategies in road safety. The probability and severity of road crashes are significantly reduced by compliance to speed limits.
