Penguin trend just harmless fun, says Lana Nodin

ACTRESS Lana Nodin sees nothing wrong with performing the viral “penguin dance” trend while giving out duit raya, reported Kosmo!.

Lana, whose real name is Mazlina Hassan Nordin, 45, believes that the dance, which has gone viral on the social media, has nothing to do with any rituals or dances of other cultures.

She expressed disappointment that her critics refused to accept her explanation of the matter.

“When I clearly explained about the ‘penguin dance’ and how it has nothing to do with other cultures, they attacked me by saying I was twisting the issue, and some even claimed that this is not Malay culture.

“What about those who are dancing on the social media? They did not label it as against the Malay culture.

“If this is the case, then we should prohibit even the ‘chicken dance’.

“I also want to remind them the ‘penguin dance’ has the same rhythm and movement as the poco-poco dance,” she said, referring to the poco-poco dance, which is a popular line dance often performed in Malay culture.

The penguin dance trend went viral on social media recently, with local celebrities doing the dance while giving out duit raya.

At the same time, the Evolusi KL Drift: The Series actress also slammed those who questioned how she celebrated Hari Raya Aidilfitri with her family.

“This is our personal right and way of thinking.

“This is my Raya, and I can celebrate however I want.

“It is not like you are giving out the duit raya to my family members. Or are you jealous of us?” she asked.
