SINCE Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail announced that Malaysia will have a newly designed passport and enhanced security MyKad within six months, there has been much speculation on what it will look like.
Recently, Internet users have been sharing photos of what is claimed to be the new Malaysian passport and MyKad on social media.
Do these images actually depict the new passport and MyKad?
VERDICT:
FALSE
In a statement (Jan 13), the Home Ministry dismissed images of a new passport and MyKad design circulating on social media as fake, emphasising that they are not official releases.
It added that the visuals that had gone viral did not reflect the actual designs of the new passport or MyKad, as claimed.
"All official details on the design and security features of the passport and MyKad will be released by the Ministry through its official channels," the statement read.
On Jan 8, Saifuddin had announced plans to roll out the new passport and MyKad this year.
The Ministry also reminded the public to use official sources to ensure information is accurate and authentic.
It said official updates on the matter can be accessed through the websites and official media of the ministry and related agencies, including the Immigration Department and National Registration Department at www.moha.gov.my, www.imi.gov.my and www.jpn.gov.my.
